About us

Gai’ Animas is one of our new grant programs for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking that will expand emergency and short-term housing for victims fleeing violence.  “Gai’ Animas”, meaning “have courage.”

This Program is a Domestic Violence Bonus Allocation under the Continuum of Care Grant awarded to the Guam Homeless Coalition (GHC). The Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority (GHURA) is the collaborative partner with GHC.  The grant will also establish a coordinated entry system to improve efficiency of response to victims.  Gai’ Animas will be a joint collaboration with Victim Advocates Reaching Out (VARO), Guma Mami Inc., Sanctuary Inc., The Salvation Army, and Mane’lu (formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters).

Primary objectives
• To provide short-term emergency housing at a motel or inn for a minimum of 3 days to three months, if shelters are at full occupancy.
• To provide permanent housing assistance for victims who are employed and need assistance with initial security deposits, first month’s rent, and utilities connection.
• To provide transition housing for up to 12 months to victims who are exiting the Alee Women’s Shelter or Sanctuary, Inc.

• To expand the coordinated entry services and victim referrals to include GPD, VARO and other organizations or self –referral, and for all of our collaborative units to access the CES for improved communication and services for our victims.
